Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026: Official Process, Seat Matrix, Management & NRI Quota

Last Updated on August 08, 2026

Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the centralized, merit-based state admission process for postgraduate medical degree and diploma courses (MD, MS, and PG Diploma) across government medical colleges, government seats in self-financing colleges, and private/deemed medical universities in the state. The entire counselling procedure is strictly organized and administered online by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Chennai, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Following the national dual-channel seat allocation model, 50% of postgraduate seats in Tamil Nadu Government Medical Colleges are surrendered to the All India Quota (AIQ) managed centrally by MCC via mcc.nic.in, while the remaining 50% of government seats, government quota seats in self-financing colleges, and 100% management/NRI quota seats in private self-financing medical colleges are administered by the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee.

1. State Quota (50% in Government Medical Colleges & Government Quota in Self-Financing Colleges)

  • Comprises 50% of the total postgraduate clinical, para-clinical, and pre-clinical seats in Tamil Nadu Government Medical Colleges (Madras Medical College Chennai, Stanley Medical College Chennai, Madurai Medical College, Kilpauk Medical College), plus designated government quota seats in private self-financing institutions.
  • Reserved for candidates who are citizens of India and possess a valid Tamil Nadu state nativity/domicile certificate, or who completed their qualifying MBBS from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or recognized institutions in the state. Reservation applies for BC, BCM, MBC/DNC, SC, ST, and PwD.
  • Fee: Highly subsidized government academic fee scale in state-run medical colleges.

2. Management Quota (Private Self-Financing Medical Colleges)

  • Comprises open management seats across Private Self-Financing Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
  • Open to NEET PG qualified aspirants from all states on a merit basis; Tamil Nadu state domicile is not mandatory.
  • Fee: Regulated private tuition fee structure prescribed by the state fee committee, varying significantly by clinical specialization.

3. NRI Quota (Private Self-Financing Medical Colleges)

  • Dedicated NRI Quota seats (up to 15% of institutional intake) reserved across private self-financing medical colleges. Government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu do not offer NRI or Management Quota seats for PG courses.
  • Open to NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals; Indian candidates sponsored by eligible NRI blood relatives are also permitted.
  • Fee: Premium international fee tier payable in USD or INR equivalent for high-demand specialties like Radio-Diagnosis, General Medicine, OBG, Orthopaedics, and Paediatrics.
